Singapore: An Earthquake of Magnitude 6.1 on Richter Scale Hit Southeast of Singapore

An earthquake hit Southeast of Singapore on Tuesday. The magnitude of the tremor was 6.1 on the Richter scale. As per the National Centre for Seismology, the earthquake struck at 4:24 am. However, USGS reported a 6.6 magnitude earthquake 93 km North of Batang, Indonesia. Though no Tsunami alert was issued and locals in Singapore did not feel any tremors. Singapore is not on the plate boundary, and hence it is not prone to earthquakes; however, big earthquakes on the nearest plate boundaries can affect the country.
