Sinai militants claim attack on Egyptian navy vessel
July 17 , 2015
Militants linked to the Islamic State have claimed to have carried out a missile strike on an Egyptian navy ship based in the Mediterranean Sea, raising further concerns about the security of sea routes in the region.
The militant group, which calls itself Sinai Province, later posted images online purporting to show a missile hitting a vessel, which catches fire. The Egyptian military said there were no casualties.
The incident occurred near the coast of Rafah town, which borders the Gaza strip. Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula has been rocked by Islamist militant attacks in the past few years.
