Siberian Weather System Disrupts Life in Europe, Death Toll Rises

  • Amid sub-zero temperatures across Europe, the death toll has risen significantly. Over 60 people are reportedly dead across the continent due to the severe weather. In Poland, over 23 people have reportedly died. Official reports say thousands are left without power in Ireland and many more are stranded as most of the flights and transport are suspended due to the unusually cold spell that was caused by a Siberian weather system.  The UK calls the unusual cold wave “the Beast from the East”, Swedes call it “snow cannon”, and Dutch call it the “Siberian bear”. The cold wave caused blizzards and strong chilly winds as the Siberian weather system met Storm Emma.
