Sea is too deep in case of missing jet
April 16 , 2014
The first underwater mission to search for the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was cut short after the drone went beyond its 2.8-mile limit.
Authorities mentioned that it helped collect about six hours of footage but didn't provide anything useful. An Australian official said the Blluefin-21 has been redeployed and the search will be carried on using other vehicles that can go deeper.
Reports suggest that the drone is capable of going down deeper but it wouldn't be functional after a point. "It's certainly not the tool I would use to do a very, very broad area sonar scan," A US Navy captain said.
