Saudi Arabia' Crown Prince Nayef passes away
June 17 , 2012
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud has died during a visit outside the kingdom.
Prince Nayef, believed to be 77 or 78, was also deputy prime minister and interior minister.
He had left the country for a holiday and medical tests late last month.
Last year, he was named crown prince succeeding Sultan bin Abdul Aziz.
The succession in Saudi Arabia passes among the sons of former King Abdul Aziz ibn Saud, who formed the modern kingdom during his reign from 1932 to 1953.
Five brothers have become kings and 20 are still alive.
Saudi Arabia will declare a period of mourning following Prince Nayef's burial in Mecca.
