Russian Ambassador to UN, Vitaly Churkin Dies at 64 in NY

  • Vitaly Churkin, Russia's ambassador to the United Nations suffered a cardiac arrest at the Russian Mission on East 67th Street and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital in New York, where he passed away. He died at the age of 64, just one day before his 65th birthday.

    In memory of the diplomat, the members of the UN General Assembly gathered and stood for a moment of silence.

    Churkin was known for his intellect and the effort he had put to improve Russian-US relations.
