July 13 , 2015
Victor Ponta, the Romanian prime minister, has said he would stand down as the Social Democratic party leader till prosecutors complete a criminal probe against him.
He has described the various allegations against him, including money laundering and forgery, from the time before he was PM, as politically motivated.
In a letter on Facebook addressed to senior members of the ruling party, he said he would hold no party post “until I prove my innocence.”
