Report suggests al-Qaeda wasn't involved in Benghazi attack
December 29 , 2013
A recent investigation sheds new light over the Benghazi attack in the U.S. Initial accounts suggested that it was an anti-Islam video, which led to the violence last year but Republicans have said the terrorist group was involved.
The New York Times mentioned that the truth is more complex than any of these reports but its investigation didn't find any evidence suggesting that al-Qaeda played any role in the assault.
An American made the video entitled "Innocence of Muslims," which only appeared online. It also motivated protests for several hours on the day before in Cairo.
Local militia leader Ahmed Abu Khattala who is said to have been a central figure in the assault still moves freely in the region.
