Report on war crimes in Sri Lanka delayed until September: UN

  • The UN war crimes report looking into the alleged atrocities carried out in the final stages of the civil war in Sri Lanka has been delayed.

It is now due to be released in September.

Welcoming the delay, the new Sri Lankan government under president Maithripala Sirisena said that it will cooperate on a “whole range" of human rights issues.

The bloody civil war ended in 2009 with the defeat of the LTTE separatist group.
