Rally in Venezuela against government policies
January 25 , 2015
Venezuelans came out in the thousands in Caracas on Saturday, January 24, to rally against government policies which they blamed for worsening the economic situation, according to media reports.
The protest was led by opposition groups. Though the protesters were stopped from reaching the city center, no major clashes were reported.
Opposition leader Maria Corina urged president Maduro to “step aside now.”
Demonstrators complained of food shortages, and rising prices of essential commodities and medicines.
The fall in global oil prices has dealt a heavy blow to Venezuela, which is a major oil producer.
