Putin quits G20 summit early after pressure over Ukraine
November 17 , 2014
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin left the G20 summit early as several western leaders piled up the pressure on him to stop his backing of the separatists in Ukraine, according to media reports.
Officially, Putin said he had to get back from the Brisbane summit to Russia for work.
The key leaders he met, included German chancellor Angela Merkel and UK Prime Minister David Cameron. The Russian president reportedly refused to yield to the sustained browbeating of him.
Cameron has said that if Moscow “continues to destabilize Ukraine,” it would lead to more sanctions.
