Protests in Okinawa over presence of US military
June 19 , 2016
People of Okinawa, a Japanese island, have gathered to protest the presence of US army on the island. The protest began after a US marine was arrested over charges of raping and murdering a local 20-year-old girl. The marine was employed as a civilian worker. This case has triggered the longstanding protest against the presence of 29,000 US troops in Okinawa. The force present on the island is key part of the US-Japan security alliance. The protesters waved placards "Our anger is past its limit" and "Pull out the Marines".
