Prisoners to be Moved Away after Riot at Texas Prison
February 22 , 2015
After a riot on Friday in a prison in South Texas, federal authorities have decided to shift all the detainees away from the “uninhabitable” correctional facility in a week’s time. The riot at the Willacy County Correctional Center involved up to 2800 federal prisoners, who took control of a part of the prison using pipes as weapons. As the negotiations with the authorities were underway, the prisoners were compliant on Saturday evening. Though it’s not clear what progress was made through negotiations. It is reported that the riot broke out when the inmates were protesting against the poor medical services by refusing to eat breakfast or report for work. No major injury was reported, however.
