Presidential election: Nigeria postpones poll over security
February 8 , 2015
Nigeria has announced that the February 14 presidential poll will be postponed by six weeks, citing security concerns.
Attahiru Jega, the head of the election commission, said the decision had to be taken as there weren't enough security forces available for the protection of voters. The election is now scheduled for March 28.
Nigerian troops have been fighting Boko Haram militants in the country’s northeastern region.
The opposition said the delay was a “setback” for democracy.
