Preparations underway for Chinese Lunar New Year

  • Preparations are underway for Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year.

The new year begins on Sunday, when the new moon is visible in the sky.

According to the Chinese zodiac, this year will be the year of the snake following the year of the dragon in 2012.

Across China, some 200 million people are traveling to celebrate with their families in what is viewed as the biggest mass human migration on Earth.

Migrant workers across the country often only have one holiday a year in which to visit their hometowns.

A week of celebrations will take place across Asia to mark the start of the new lunar year, the most important holiday across much of the continent.
