Pope Francis calls for interfaith dialogue to combat fanaticism
November 29 , 2014
Starting his important trip to Turkey, Pope Francis has stressed the need for an interfaith dialogue to confront fundamentalism and fanaticism.
He said the Middle East had been a “theater of fratricidal wars” for too long and called for a stronger push towards peace in the region.
The pope, who was speaking in Ankara, also appealed for more help for Syrian and Iraqi refugees.
Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan described the papal visit as a "significant" step towards regional peace.
