Plane carrying 147 passengers crashes in Nigeria's Lagos
June 4 , 2012
147 people are feared dead after a passenger plane crashed into buildings in Nigeria's commercial capital Lagos.
No survivors have been reported on board the Dana Air flight by Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority. The cause of the crash is yet to be determined, though the cockpit recorder has been located and handed over to police.
The plane took off from the Nigerian capital Abuja and crashed in Lagos’ densely populated Iju neighbourhood, just north of the airport.
Casualties on the ground are believed to be minimal as it was a Sunday and commercial buildings were likely to have been empty.
President Goodluck Jonathan has declared three days of mourning.
