Philippines typhoon death toll rises

  • The death toll from Typhoon Bopha, which battered the southern Philippines on Wednesday, has risen to about 200.

At least 156 people are known to have died in Compostela Valley province alone.

Rescuers have reached most areas but are still struggling to get to some isolated communities.

Across the affected provinces, rescuers have pulled out dozens of people from the mud, most of whom suffered facial wounds or limb injuries.

The typhoon is expected to move out into the South China Sea over the course of the day.
