Pakistan Swears In New Legislature
June 1 , 2013
Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) secured a significant victory last month while commanding 177 of the 342 seats in the assembly. On Saturday, Sharif and other newly elected parliamentarians were administered the oath by outgoing National Assembly Speaker Fehmida Mirza. It has been fourteen years since Sharif's last stint at the parliament and Pakistan's first democratic transition of power in its 66-year-old history. The election of the Pakistani premier is slotted for June 5. Sharif's selection as house leader is almost certain since the PML-N has over 180 members in the 342-seater National Assembly.
