Over 39 People Dead and 50 More Injured in South Korea Hospital Fire

  • Over 39 people are reportedly dead with 50 more injured in a fire mishap at Sejong Hospital in South Korea’s Miryang city after a blaze broke out in the emergency room. Reports say there were around 200 patients still locked up in the hospital building along with the adjoining nursing home when the fire broke out. Fire chief Choi Man-woo told media that the fire broke out at around 07:30 in the morning local time and it took the fire-fighters about 3 hours to put it out. Cause of the fire outbreak is still unknown, the fire chief said. Local media reports pointed out that the fire sprinklers are absent in the building (as South Korean law doesn’t make fire sprinklers mandatory for nursing homes).
