Over 3,000 people had to be evacuated after Chile’s Villarrica volcano erupted on Tuesday, with lava and ash spewing up to 1000 meter into the air.
Standing at a height of 2,840 meters, is classified as an active volcano in the south of the country. Hikers often climb its peak to look into the crater.
This is believed to be the first major eruption in three decades. The nearby towns of Conaripe and Pucon were evacuated as a precautionary measure, authorities said.
