Obama says no to Keystone XL pipeline
November 7 , 2015
The US has rejected the controversial Keystone XL pipeline proposal.
President Barack Obama said it would not serve US “national interests”. Environmentalists have been campaigning against the pipeline, but Obama said that the 1,179-miles pipeline had assumed an “overinflated role” in the debate on climate change.
The proposed pipeline would have carried 800,000 barrels of oil a day from Canada to Steele City, Nebraska. But Obama said it would neither lower petrol prices nor create long-term jobs as claimed by its backers.
