North Korea to hold highest political gathering

  • North Korea will hold a once-in-a-generation political gathering on Friday. The gathering, which would be held at April 25 House of Culture, an art center, is being held after more than three decades. During the last gathering, in 1980, North Korea’s founder and President, Kim Il Sung, had elevated his son Kim Jong Il to the number two position in the party. This development had strengthened Kim Jong Il’ position as successor to Kim Il Sung. It is believed that in the current gathering, North Korea’s supreme leader would reinforce his style of simultaneous economic and nuclear development moving away from his father’s military first ideology.
