North Korea announces rocket launch date

  • North Korea is to launch a long-range rocket between December10 and 22, its official news agency announced on Saturday.

According to the KCNA agency, the aim is to launch a satellite.

Earlier launches, though unsuccessful, have been criticized as breaches of a United Nations ban on North Korean ballistic missile tests.

North Korea's most recent rocket launch, which took place in April, was a failure.

The U.S., Japan and South Korea said the rocket flew only for a short time before breaking up and crashing into sea off the Korean peninsula.
