Nigerian army troops have killed 20 suspected members of the militant Islamist group Boko Haram in the northeast region of the country.
A government soldier also died in a shootout in Maiduguri town.
In recent months, Boko Haram has carried out a spate of raids on churches and other targets in Nigeria.
The group aims to establish Islamic law across the country, whose Christian and animist population live mainly in the south.
