Nelson Mandela interpreter has a long arrest record
December 14 , 2013
The Nelson Mandela interpreter, who claimed to have been hallucinating at the memorial service, has been charged with several offenses over the years including murder and rape.
It's not clear if Thamsanqa Jantjie ever spent time in jail but the arrest record raises questions about how he was selected to play such an important role in Mandela's service.
A spokesman for the South African Police Service declined to confirm details about Jantjie's criminal charges. "As the minister announced yesterday, we have noted all the concerns and issues that have been raised," Gen Solomon Makgale said. "We are busy with preparations with Sunday's funeral and we will look at it next week."
