Myanmar: Over 150 Chinese nationals get life terms for illegal logging
July 23 , 2015
A court in Myanmar sentenced more than 150 Chinese nationals to life imprisonment for illegal logging. Two teenage boys got ten-year terms, and a woman got an additional 15-year term for drug possession.
The group was arrested in Kachin state, near the Chinese border, in January. The Chinese government has urged Myanmar to deal with the issue in a “lawful, reasonable and sensible” manner. Life terms in Myanmar are usually for 20 years.
