Mubarak under house arrest at military hospital
August 23 , 2013
Hosni Mubarak was released from prison and transported to a hospital today. The former president will now be held under house arrest at the military hospital in a suburb of Cairo.
The 85-year-old smiled and put his arms behind his back as he was pushed into the ambulance by the medics.
Despite his release, Mubarak still faces charges of complicity in the killing of protestors and these charges could send him back to jail. There are also investigations being done in at least two more corruption cases.
The court case is scheduled to resume next week.
Mubarak had been sentenced to life imprisonment last year and many of his opponents are dismayed by his release.
