Mexico Hit by 7.2 Magnitude Earthquake

  • South-western Mexico was hit by a massive earthquake (7.2-magnitude tremor at epicenter - Pinotepa de Don Luis town in Oaxaca state), which shook buildings in Mexico city that is located 217 miles (350km) from the epicenter. Traffic in Mexico City came to a standstill after the quake and people were seen running out of buildings. Earthquake alert systems have been activated by the authorities in 5 states and residents have been urged to stay outdoors. The US Geological Survey said that the quake took place 24.6km underground.
