  • Four Jakarta attackers identified

    Four out of five Jakarta attackers have been identified. Media reports quoted Indonesian police as saying that two of the attackers were previously convicted militants. One has been identified as Afif Sunakim Afif Sunakim. He was seen carrying a gun and rucksack during the attack. Afif was given a seven year jail sentence for attending a militant camp. All the five militants died in the attacks.

    Indonesian police searching for terror cells believed to be behind Jakarta attacks

    Indonesia is searching for terror cells that are believed to be behind the attacks in Jakarta. Media reports quoted Jakarta’s chief of police Insp Gen Tito Karnavian as saying the attackers had been neutralized. He further said the attackers were part of a global network and linked to groups across Indonesia. Two civilians and five attackers were killed in the attacks which happened in a busy commercial district. Militant group ISIS claimed responsibility for the attacks.

    A series of blasts rocked Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. According to media reports, at least three people have been killed in the blasts, which occurred outside the Sarinah shopping centre, near the UN offices and presidential palace. There are reports of ongoing gunfire and the police have cordoned off the area. There is currently no information on who is responsible for the blasts.
