Man charged with murder of London soldier
May 30 , 2013
A man has been charged with the murder of a British soldier in south London last week.
Michael Adebowale, 22, was remanded in custody and will appear in court later today.
Adebowale was also charged with possession of a firearm.
A second man, Michael Adebolajo, 28, remains at a London hospital.
Drummer Lee Rigby, 25, was killed in broad daylight last Wednesday by the two men who attempted to behead him while shouting "God is greatest" in Arabic outside his barracks in Woolwich.
The pair were shot and injured by police at the scene of the incident.
Both Adebowale and Adebolajo are Britons of Nigerian origin who are believed to have converted to Islam.
It was revealed last week that Adebolajo was arrested in Kenya in 2010, as he was believed to have been getting ready to join the Somali militant group al-Shabab.
So far, eight other people have been arrested in connection with the attack with five having received bail and two being released without charge.
