Maldives declares emergency
November 4 , 2015
Abdulla Yameen, President of Maldives, has declared a state of emergency in the country. According to media reports, the move, which has come just two days before a major anti-government protest rally in the country, gives security forces sweeping powers to arrest suspects. The protest has been planned by Maldivian Democratic party, the main opposition party. The leader of the party, Mohamed Nasheed, is currently in jail after a much criticized conviction under anti-terror laws.
