Mahatma Gandhi's statue unveiled in London's Parliament Square

  • A 9ft bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi has been unveiled in Parliament Square in London. As per media reports, the unveiling of the statue celebrates 100 years of Gandhi’s return from South Africa to India to launch his struggle for India’s independence from the British rule. The Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust raised more than £1m for the work. The statue was unveiled by Arun Jaitley, Finance Minister of India, in the presence of Gandhi's grandson, Gopalkrishna Gandhi, and other dignitaries. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister David Cameron said the statue was a magnificent tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
