Long-term campaign in Iraq may be required, says Obama
August 10 , 2014
President Barack Obama has said the US is committed to a long-term campaign in Iraq and there is no quick-fix solution to the crisis.
Obama's remarks come as advances made by Sunni militant groups have led to a mass exodus of minority Christians from north-west Iraq.
Isis militants are just 50km away from the Kurdish city of Irbil. Part of the reason why Obama ordered strikes against Isis was to protect US interests and personnel in Irbil.
