Location of attack at radisson hotel in Bamako, Mali

  • US says Mali gunmen attack over
    Nov 20, 2015 [9.30 PM ET] - US officials have confirmed that the attack by suspected Islamist militants at Radisson Blue Hotel in the capital of Mali has ended. According to media reports, the gunmen had taken 170 people hostages at the hotel. The Mali authorities said that there were no more hostages in the building and the security forces were after the gunmen. The National Security Council has condemned the attack. Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and its offshoot al-Murabitoun has claimed responsibility for the attack.

    Mali attacks: 27 dead
    27 people have been killed at the hotel. According to media reports, UN peacekeepers have seen 12 bodies in the hotel's basement and 15 on the second floor. Malaysian military has said that two gunmen have been killed in the operation. 

    Mali attacks: 18 people dead

    Al-Mourabitoun, an African jihadist group affiliated with the al-Qaeda and based in northern Mali, has said that it is behind the attacks on Radisson Blu hotel. However, the claim is yet to be verified. Meanwhile, latest reports have said that 18 people have been killed in the attack. As per reports, the operation to free hostages is going on with a small team of US troops helping to rescue hostages.

    Mali attack: 80 hostages freed

    An operation to rescue hostages is currently underway. Earlier gunmen had stormed Radisson Blu Hotel in Mali’s capital Bamako taken 170 people hostage. As per latest reports, of the 170 hostages, 80 have been freed. Meanwhile, Special Forces of Mali are clearing the hotel floor by floor.

    Mali attack: 10 gunmen attacked the hotel, says witnesses

    A witness said that around 10 gunmen attacked the hotel. Media reports quoted the witness as saying that the gunmen arrived early in the morning and shot all the guards who were in front of the hotel. Several hostages were let off by the attackers after they recited verses of the Quran.

    Nov 20, 2015 - Gunmen have attacked a hotel in Bamako, the capital of Mali. As per media reports, firing could be heard outside the 190-room Radisson Blu Hotel located in the center of Mali’s capital. A security source said that the attack seems to be an attempt to take hostages and the police have reached the spot and are sealing the area.
