Lebanon Goes to Poll after 9 Years

  • Parliamentary election has started in Lebanon on Sunday after almost a decade. The country held the last election back in 2009 and the 4-year term was extended twice due to instability in Syria (the neighboring country) as well as the coveted electoral law reform in the country. For the first time ever, as part of electoral reform, total number of districts have been reduced, voting system has been changed, and expatriate voting has been allowed. Voting has started in 128 seats and will continue till 19:00 local time. Official result of the parliamentary election will be announced only on Monday or early Tuesday.
