Kurds begin campaign north of ISIS-held Raqqa

  • A US-backed alliance of Arab and Syrian Kurdish fighters have launched a campaign to push out ISIS militants from a land north of Raqqa, the de facto capital of the militant group. Media reports suggest that around 30,000 fighters have been deployed by the Syrian Democratic Forces. The fighters would be supported by US-led coalition fighter jets. Russia has also given its backing to the assault.
