Jamaica's cabinet approves bill legalizing marijuana possession
January 22 , 2015
Jamaica’s cabinet has given its nod to a bill, which legalizes the possession of limited quantities of marijuana.
The bill will now go to the senate for approval.
If it goes through, Jamaica’s Rastafarian community, known to use marijuana for religious rituals, would be able to legally smoke it.
A licensing body for the sale, cultivation, and distribution of the herb for therapeutic and medical purposes may also be set up, according to the bill.
