Israeli military shoots down drone near border with Syria

  • Israel says it shot down a drone on Sunday, August 31, that had entered its airspace beside the border with Syria, as per media reports.

The unmanned aerial vehicle was destroyed using a surface-to-air missile over Golan Heights, the IDF said. In a statement the IDF said it would “respond to any breach of Israel's sovereignty.”

It was not clear, which Syrian faction was operating the drone.

Meanwhile, the United Nations is trying to free several UN peacekeepers who have been detained by an Islamist group in the Syrian side of the Golan Heights.
