Israel offers extension of three-day ceasefire
August 7 , 2014
The Israeli government has offered an extension of the 72-hour ceasefire in Gaza.
However, militant group Hamas has not given its consent. Indirect talks between Hamas and Israel are going on in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
The conflict claimed over 1,800 Palestinian lives, a majority of them civilians, whereas 64 Israeli soldiers and three civilians died.
Barack Obama, the US president, has said that “there has to be a recognition that Gaza cannot sustain itself permanently closed off from the world.”
