Islamic State loses 45% of territory in Iraq and 20% in Syria
May 18 , 2016
The Islamic State has lost 45% of the territory it had once held in Iraq and 20% of areas it used to control in Syria. According to new estimates by a US-led coalition, the steady loss of battlefield in Iraq and Syria is prompting the Islamic State to strike back against civilians. Aided by coalition airstrikes, the Iraqi forces have managed to seize more territory since the beginning of 2016.
