Islamic State (ISIS) is an imminent threat, says Pentagon
August 22 , 2014
Officials of the Pentagon have said that the militant group Isis, which beheaded US journalist James Foley, was an “imminent threat.”
Chairman of the joint chiefs of staff General Martin Dempsey said the United States should build allies to defeat the Islamist group. He said Isis had an “apocalyptic, end-of-days strategic vision.”
After ISIS released a video showing the execution of Foley, US president Barack Obama described the Sunni militant group as a “cancer.” But there is debate within the Obama administration on how best to tackle the Isis challenge.
