Iraq demands withdrawal of Turkish troops from area near Mosul
December 5 , 2015
Iraq has demanded that Turkish troops withdraw from an area near the Islamic State-held city of Mosul.
In a statement, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi’s office described the Turkish move as a “serious breach of Iraqi sovereignty”.
Some 150 Turkish troops were deployed to reportedly train Iraqi Kurdish forces. The Iraqi government has urged Turkey to respect “good neighborly relations and to withdraw immediately” from Iraqi territory.
Turkey has close links with Kurdish-controlled areas of Iraq.
