Iranian President Rouhani Signals Talks if the USA Shows Respect

  • Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that they may be willing to hold talks with the USA if the latter showed respect. However, he made it sure that they can’t be pressured into any kind of negotiation. A leading Iranian news agency has quoted Rouhani as saying that Tehran are in favor of logic and negotiations can be possible only if the US “sits respectfully at the negotiating table and follows international regulations”. Rouhani’s statement comes couple of days after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that his country will not negotiate with the United States. During a speech to a group of Iranian athletes, Iranian President Rouhani pointed out the US President Donald Trump’s recent remarks that are a genuine climb down from his last year’s statements where he encouraged regime change in Iran.
