Iran set to appoint first female ambassador since 1979
April 15 , 2015
Marzieh Afkham is set to become the first female ambassador from Iran since the Islamic revolution in 1979, a move which is being hailed as a milestone for women empowerment under the government of Hassan Rouhani.
Afkham, currently a spokesperson of the foreign ministry, is expected to head a mission in an east Asian country, Iranian media reports said.
Before this, Iran had only one female ambassador in the pre-revolution days. In 1976, Mehrangiz Dolatshahi was made the ambassador to Denmark.
