Iran elections: Votes being counted

  • Votes are being counted in Iran's elections. Media reports quoted the Interior Ministry as saying that it had counted 25 percent of the results by Saturday morning. However, it is believed that a final tally is unlikely to be known before Monday. The 290 parliamentary seats along with 88-member Assembly of Experts is to be decided through the election. The election will decide whether Khamenei, who has been in power since 1989 starts a new term or the moderate leader Hasan Rouhani gets to deliver the promises of greater freedom along with economic reforms.
