ICC urges South Africa to arrest Sudan's president Omar al-Bashir
June 14 , 2015
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has urged South Africa’s government to arrest Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir, who is in the country to attend the African Union (AU) summit.
Bashir is wanted in connection with war crimes committed during the Darfur conflict.
However, his arrest is highly unlikely — the Sudanese leader was welcomed by officials from South Africa when he arrived in Johannesburg.
The crisis in South Sudan, Boko Haram violence in Nigeria and the unrest in Burundi are among the key issues expected to be discussed at the AU summit.
