Hungary: Parliament approves tougher anti-migrant legislation
July 7 , 2015
Hungarian MPs have approved a new law that tightens asylum norms and supported the plan to build a border fence that will keep migrants away.
Migrants can now be detained in temporary camps and the review process for asylum application has been quickened, with fewer chances of appeal.
Activists and the United Nations have criticized the move.
The legislation was passed by a 151-41 vote, and had the support of Hungary's ruling Fidesz party.
