Hong Kong Magnate, Ex-Official Sentenced for Corruption

A billionaire property magnate and Hong Kong's ex-official were sentenced to imprisonment on Tuesday, December 23, on the charges of misconduct and conspiracy in one of the city's high-level corruption trials, according to media reports. Thomas Kwok, the tycoon is sentenced to a five-year imprisonment and Rafael Hui, who was once the city's second-ranked official is sentenced to prison for five years.
Besides this, after having found guilty of the established charges by a high court jury in the preceding week, Kwok was ordered to pay a fine of $64,453 along with a cost of $1.6 million in the prosecution, whereas Hui was given orders to pay to the government of Hong Kong $1.4 million.
