'Historic moment': US flag hoisted as embassy reopens in Cuba
August 15 , 2015
In a major step towards normalizing relations with Cuba, the United States has reopened its embassy in Havana after over 54 years.
Secretary of State John Kerry presided over the flag-raising ceremony at the Cuban capital.
The US flag was presented by the same three veteran US marines who had lowered it in 1961.
Describing the flag hoisting as a “historic” moment, Kerry said the Obama administration wanted to ease trade restrictions on Cuba.
